I was so thrilled to receive an Honorable Mention in the Culture & Daily Life category in the 13th edition of the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards, a competition celebrating women photographers all over the world, held by the Photography Gala Awards.
The winning images were three of my favorites from my latest adventure to the Turkana region of northern Kenya.
I have been photographing the Parade for more than 20 years, and it never disappoints. It is an honor to continue to receive recognition with images from one of my favorite New York City events.
The highly acclaimed ND AWARDS is a melting pot of some of the world’s most outstanding and talented souls in the field of photography. The Gala Awards, with the sponsorship of the Biennial of Fine Art & Documentary Photography, celebrate women photographers of all levels.
I am always thrilled to be honored alongside so many wonderful photographers from all around the world.
I received the wonderful news this week that I have been awarded Grand Prize in Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’ 2018 “Diversity” competition with one of my favorite images from Ethiopia, a portrait of a Suri family wearing some of their amazing headdresses in the Omo Valley.
With my work, particularly my ongoing series “Still Points in a Turning World“, I am always exploring our universal cross-cultural truths: the importance of family, community, ritual and the amazing diversity of its expression, so this award is especially meaningful to me.
Many thanks to Santa Fe Photographic Workshops for this incredible honor, and congratulations to the other winners and honorable mentions; may we all continue to celebrate diversity together. Though we may not see our own customs and traditions in these images, it is my hope that we recognize our common humanity.
I’m very happy to announce my Honorable Mention in the 2018 PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris competition in the Performing Arts category with my series from Buglisi Dance Theatre’s “Table of Silence” project.
